Naps (still!) and that's about it. There's not too much this kid doesn't enjoy.

Did you happen to catch that height/weight stat up there? This kid is in the 99th percentile for height right now! I mean, we knew he was big for his age but, holy moly! His size 6-months clothes that he just started wearing a few weeks ago are already getting too small. I'm so grateful for all the hand-me-downs and gifted outfits we received because if we had to buy him all new stuff each time he grew out of a size, we'd probably go broke before his first birthday!

He rolled over for the first time a few weeks ago but didn't really do it again until right at the four month mark. That day, he rolled from back to tummy three times - twice while playing on his play mat and once while goofing off in his crib in an effort to avoid an afternoon nap. He hasn't quite mastered the tummy-to-back roll yet, though, so once he realized he'd rolled and couldn't get back over, he wasn't too happy about it. He tolerates tummy time in small doses but gets annoyed if he has to do it for too long so it might be a while before he learns to roll the other way.

He also noticed the piggies, and I mean really saw them, for the first time this month! They've been aware of him since we came home from the hospital and they often approach to sniff him out while playing outside the cage, but he never really seemed to notice them. He'd look at them the way babies look at anything, but it didn't seem to register that they were actual living critters until recently. I usually take him with me to their cage when it's time to feed them and I always tell him their names and what we're giving them to eat. A few weeks ago, as we approached the cage to give them their dinner, both little piggies came bursting out of their igloos as soon as they heard the food bag. When Rico saw them run out, he started squealing and flapping his arms and legs!  He got super excited and couldn't stop shrieking. He happily stayed by the cage and watched them until they finished their dinner!

He also likes to practice "standing" while holding our hands. It's one of his favorite things right now. He loves looking around and taking in all the sights the world has to offer and standing is another way for him to do just that. The laughter started this month, too. You have to really work for it, though. He doesn't give out laughs for just anything but he does do this fake laughing thing where he smiles and says, "Ha ha. Ha ha. Ha ha." Just like that. Ha ha. It's like he knows something's funny and she should laugh, but he's not will to commit to more than a little chuckle yet.

I know I say this with every update but I seriously cannot believe how quickly the last few months have flown by. Watching him grow and change so much in such a short period of time makes it feel like I'm literally watching time pass. But still, I wouldn't want to slow it down at all. There's so much to show and teach him, so much to do together as a family, and I'm excited that he's now starting to really take in the world around him. He's eager to experience it all and we're eager to show it to him.

The snot sucker (it's his arch-nemesis right now), long car rides, not being in the action, daytime naps (still!)

Well, he's gone bald in the last month.  On the flip side, he's much better about holding his head up and loves looking around to soak in the scene.  He gets cuter and more social everyday and it's been fun to see all the new things he's learning to do.  He rolled over once so far, from back to front, and he likes to scoot around his blanket like a little inch worm during tummy time.  So far, he's not that interested in rolling over from tummy to back but he does seem like he wants to crawl and move around.  He also loves chatting and having babble conversations.  I have no idea what he's actually trying to say but he definitely responds when we talk to him or ask questions.  It's pretty cute!  Our conversations usually go something like this:

Me: "Good morning!  Did you sleep well last night?"
Him: "Ah-goo! Uh-wah, cccccccccccc, ooh ooh ooh!"
Me: "Really?  And did you have good dreams?"
Him: "Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh!" *blows raspberry*

Fascinating stuff, there.  We're also getting a lot more comfortable with running errands together and going on "adventures" but I'm still working on figuring out the best way to do our grocery shopping.  If any of you awesome moms have suggestions, I'm all ears!

And speaking of ears, his are pretty darn adorable the way they flip out and flop around, don't you think? :)

PS - The Husband and I decided that since I share so many photos of him, we'd at least keep his name off the internet.  But I've quickly realized he's going to outgrown the Baby T nickname pretty soon so, from now on, I'm going to start using his fun little nickname when referring to him in posts - Rico!

Like, Rico Suave.

Friday Five | The Fall Edition

Happy Friday, folks!  We are firmly into October now and even though it's been in the 80s around here lately, I'm finding little signs of fall everywhere.  Here are just a few things I'm loving right now about the changing seasons.

1 | Fall Fashion

cardigans for fall

1  |  2  |  3

Along with tan ankle boots, I find myself craving oversized cardigans and pretty printed ponchos this fall.  These are just a few of my current favorites.  It's a little out of my seasonal budget to buy all three so I'm trying to narrow it down to the one I like most.  Tough decision.  Which would you pick?

2 | Fall Food

We all know I love a nice, hot pumpkin spice latte but I'm not into pumpkin everything.  I found everything from pumpkin coffee to pumpkin tortilla chips at Trader Joe's this week and that's taking it just a little too far for me.  But you know what I do love?  Apples.  Pears.  Pomegranates.  Squash, especially acorn squash roasted with butter and brown sugar and butternut squash soup.  And chili.  And hearty beef and veggie stew.  So many good things in season right now, why let pumpkin steal the spotlight?

3 | Fall TV

Football is the obvious fall TV favorite here for me but there are a lot of good shows returning this month and some new ones I'm digging, too.  I'm putting together a post of all my fall TV favorites because one good thing about feeding a baby every 3 hours is that it gives you a lot of time to catch up on the entertainment.

4 | The Holidays

I know I mentioned this before but I'm really excited for the holidays this year, mainly because it'll be Baby T's first ... everything!  He has been wearing his pumpkin pj's this week and they're basically the cutest thing every.  That little pumpkin hat is just the tip of the iceberg this holiday season!

5 | Shorter Days, Longer Nights

Okay, most people wouldn't put this on the "things they're excited about" list but it's definitely on there for me.  After being a rockstar sleeper and clocking in 8-9 hours a night, Baby T started having trouble staying asleep and began waking up every couple of hours for about two weeks so we dropped his last nap of the day and moved his bedtime up about two hours.  That made a huge difference and now he's sleeping about 11 hours straight, with one brief feeding at 11pm, every night.  That means The Husband and I have our evenings back!  We have dinner together and cuddle up on the couch to catch up on our favorite shows or just chat about our days.  We even got to watch an actual movie (Unbroken) last Saturday night!  Don't get me wrong, we love that baby like none other, but we love each other, too, and are thrilled we're getting to spend a little more time just the two of us.

What about you?  What are you excited about this fall?

They Grow Up So Fast

three month infant photo

He grew out of the 0-3 month size right when he reached two months.  While the kid is definitely not lacking in the clothes department, he only had a few things in the 3-6 month size.  I took advantage of a sale at Old Navy and ordered a couple of 3-6 month items.  I waited and waited for the delivery and finally decided to check the tracking info.  Turns out, the package had been "delivered" four days before.  Based on the time listed on the tracking info, it was delivered while we were out running a few errands.  Now, our postman has a bad habit of leaving packages on the sidewalk in front of our apartment.  Sometimes he rings the doorbell and is just driving away by the time I get to the door.  At least then I can grab the package and bring it inside.  But sometimes I'm not home, and he still leaves the package.  I've arrived home from grocery shopping to find a package sitting in front of the garage door, just begging to be picked up by someone, anyone.  But I've also come home to find packages ripped open with their contents missing.  I've asked him not to leave anything outside our gate, to please ring the doorbell or leave a noticed and I'll gladly come pick it up from the post office, but still, he leaves them.

I mean it's not like we live in an urban neighborhood on a street that gets a lot of daytime foot traffic.  Oh, wait ...

I contacted Old Navy and explained what happened.  They generously offered to reship the items using UPS instead of the US postal service if I still wanted them.  Well, of course I still wanted them!  My kid needs pants!  Finally, about three weeks after I originally placed the order, a little package arrived at our door.  I was so excited I ripped right into it and pulled out the cutest little pair of gray sweat pants.

And wouldn't you know, they were too small.  The kid is already wearing the next size up.

Currently | Vol. 3

beach in puerto vallarta mexico

Watching Project Runway.  Anyone else?  I thought I had my favorites for top three but I'm starting to change my mind after the last few challenges!

Reading Amy Poehler's Yes Please.  I feel like we could be best friends, that Amy and me.

Listening to nothing.  The kid finally fell asleep and all is quiet.  The clickity-clack of my keyboard is all that fills the silence and it's glorious.

Eating Flaming Hot Cheetos.  Let's be honest, we all knew that wasn't just a pregnancy craving.

Drinking ice cold chocolate milk.  Such a simple indulgence but oh man, it makes me happy.

Craving fall weather.  We got a little glimpse of it earlier in the week (and even had a day of rain!) and I'm definitely ready for more.

Wishing there were more hours in the day.  I've started up with shoots again, which I am so excited about, but I was just starting to feel like I had some sort of a routine down and now I have a new element in the mix - work.  We're figuring it out but it definitely leaves me feeling like I wish I could clone myself sometimes.

Dreaming of the beach and our trip to Puerto Vallarta last year.  It was so peaceful and relaxing spending the days lounging on the beach with a never-ending supply of pina coladas.

Loving that we're now officially entering the holiday season, at least in my book, and it all starts in October with Halloween.  It's no secret how much I love fall and I'm especially excited this year because it means a lot of fun firsts for Baby T.

Happy Weekend!
