It's Amazing What A Coat Of Paint Can Do

As of Friday at approximately 3pm, we had a few things stuffed in boxes but were still living in a mostly set up, untouched apartment.  Twenty-four hours later, we were out and our neighbor was fully settled in.  (We switched units with our neighbor to take over a larger apartment in our building and make room for Baby T!)  Somehow, someway, we managed to pack everything up and complete our end of the move by noon Saturday.  We had help from a friend, a guy we hired off Task Rabbit, and a cleaning crew of three to get ish done, though.  There's no way we could've done it just the two of us!  The new apartment is larger, with a lovely view, but some previous tenants (not our current neighbor) painted it some pretty hideous colors, so we headed to Home Depot Saturday afternoon to pick up some paint and start the DIY transformation.  I am kind of amazed at the progress were were able to make in just a few days, especially since it was just the two of us for this part of the moving process.  We managed to paint the bedroom and living room, unpack and fully set up both rooms, and unpack and set up the kitchen & bathroom!  We still need to paint the office/nursery and get that set up but overall, I'm happy with how things are looking just four days into the new place.

Here are some before-and-afters of the bedroom.  We still need to decorate, get some curtains (our old ones are too small for this window), and add a few finishing touches but all the basics are in place.

I know what you're thinking.  "But Stephanie, the wood paneling and puke green wall are so lovely, how could you possibly paint over them?"  It was a tough decision but someone had to do it.

The view from the living room is pretty awesome.  The city skyline looks so lovely on a sunny afternoon but, of course, Karl the Fog came sweeping in by the evening!

Needless to say, things have been pretty busy around here.  The blog may be a little quiet for the rest of the week as we continue to settle in and I prep for my last wedding before Baby's arrival.  I'll miss you over the next few days, but I'll be sure to share some more before-and-afters as we get the other rooms all set up.  And, of course, you can always follow along on Instagram for all kinds of life & session updates. :)

Friday Five

1 // It's moving day!  Well, sort of.  Technically it's tomorrow but I'll be spending most of today boxing up stuff and getting organized.  It's an easy move as far as moves go -a larger apartment in our same building- and while I'm not all that excited about the actual packing/unpacking part of the move, I am excited about the other fun moving-related stuff.  Painting the place, setting up the rooms, organizing my new office/nursery space (taking inspiration from Joy on that one) and being in a new environment.  Right now, the apartment is painted various shades of poop brown so I'll be sure to take some before & after shots to share.  It's pretty amazing what a fresh coat can do to spruce up a place.

2 // We had another ultrasound this week to check on Baby T's growth and measurements.  Um ... this baby is huge!  He/she is measuring two weeks ahead of schedule and the current estimated weight is almost five and a half pounds.  To quote the doc, "You're definitely not having a 6- or 7-pound baby.  Think more like 8.5 to 9 pounds at least."  No wonder my hips and lower back have been so sore lately!

3 // I've recently re-discovered the ice cream maker we received as a wedding gift so I'm planning on christening the new kitchen with my all-time fave flavor, mint chocolate chip.  We're expecting some fresh mint in this week's CSA delivery and this recipe has my name written all over it.

4 // Speaking of ice cream, I've got to get my sugar cravings in check again.  I did surprisingly well with my Lenten promise and stuck to it for all 40+ days.  Then I went a little cray-cray the week after Easter to make up for missing my drug of choice for so long.  I've had chocolate in some form pretty much everyday since so I'm going to try and exercise a little restraint as we move into May.  Mint chocolate chip ice cream being the exception, of course (it's not May yet!).

5 // And finally, some pretty blooms to brighten your Friday from @lamamanheureuse!  Don't forget to share your floral photo with the hashtag #TSFridayFlowers to see it featured here in the future!
Happy weekend!

Julia & Michael | Engaged in San Francisco

I know I've teased you a bit with photos from Julia & Michael's sunny Sonoma nuptials but before I share the full wedding day, I wanted to first share their sweet engagement session with you.  Julia is actually a former colleague of mine from the law firm I worked at in my pre-full-time-photographer days so it was especially heartwarming to see her so giddy in love.  We met up just before Thanksgiving (when I was about 10 weeks pregnant and nonstop nauseated) for their session at Crissy Field and Fort Mason.  She & Michael have such a great chemistry together and it really shows in the photos.  They laughed throughout the entire session and needed very little direction from me, despite insisting beforehand that they were both awkward in front of the camera.  But I think there's a special magic when you're standing side-by-side with your true love that turns all that awkwardness into pure adorableness.  Combine that with the gorgeous late-fall afternoon light and you have the makings of a pretty fantastic love session.  Enjoy! ♥

Friday Five

1  //  Less than nine weeks until Baby T is due to make his or her arrival.  It's gone by so fast!

2  //  One month until I'm "officially" on maternity leave.  I use the term "officially" loosely here because, seeing as how it's my business and there's no actual leaving the office, it'll be pretty difficult for me to step away completely.  But I sure will try...

3  //  There are four weddings, three engagement sessions, and one commercial session on my calendar that need to be shot and/or edited between now and the beginning of said maternity leave.  It's going to be a busy month!

4  //  Add to that the fact that we're moving very soon (not far, just to a larger apartment in our building) and I'm beginning to understand why I've had some pretty vivid anxiety nightmares lately.

5  //  But it's Friday, and Fridays are the best day of the week, so I'll end this on a positive note with five photos from Bri & Kam's sweet engagement session for your enjoyment!  I'm shooting their Capitola wedding tomorrow and can't wait to witness these two promise forever to each other in front of all their loved ones.  We had so much fun together at their engagement session, I just know the wedding day will be a blast, too!

Friday Five & Some Instagram Fun

1  //  I love flowers and I love Instagram so, while browsing the Trader Joe's flower section, I got the brilliant idea to have a little fun with those loves and create an Instagram challenge for all of us!  And I've made it as easy as ABC:

A. Share a photo of flowers
B. On Fridays
C. with the hashtag #TSFridayFlowers.

The "TS" is for Twentieth Street, so I can be sure to find you!  No other themes or daily/weekly prompts to follow, and the whole "flowers" thing is totally open for interpretation.  Real flowers, fake flowers, sketches of flowers, floral prints - whatever you like!  Just share some pretty blooms on Friday to welcome the weekend and help make all our Insta-feeds a little bit brighter.  I'll be highlighting a few of your photos each week so be sure to include the hashtag if you'd like to see yours featured here!

2  //  And speaking of features with beautiful flowers, Emily & Ralph's gorgeous fall wedding is being featured on Style Me Pretty today!  Fun fact: I found out I was pregnant the week of their wedding and spent the entire five days leading up to it puking multiple times a day.  Yippee!  Needless to say, I was really happy to have all the prettiness of their special day to distract me from the never-ending nausea. :)

3  //  My mother-in-law and sisters-in-law hosted a co-ed baby shower for us over the weekend.  The dudes drank beer and watched "the game" (whatever game was on that day...) while the ladies ate gluten-free cupcakes and chatted about baby stuff (and work stuff and life stuff, too).  It was really great to spend some time with family and friends -possibly our last opportunity to do so while childless- and see so many people excited to meet Baby T in June.

4  //  It was a full-on family weekend with Easter being the day after the shower.  The Nieces hunted for Easter eggs, The Husband drank some booze after 40 days without it, and I ate enough sugar and chocolate to make up for all I missed during the entire Lenten period.  It was divine.

5  //  Juno is fitting in nicely to our family life and getting along really well with Gia.  The vet discovered a mild case of ringworm when we took her in for an exam so she's currently being quarantined until her round of anti-fungal medication is over (btw, I thought it was an actual worm/parasite, turns out it's just a fungal infection).  Since we don't want Gia to catch it, too, we haven't been allowing them direct contact with each other, but Gia still stops by her cage everyday to check in on her new little sis and give her some guinea pig kisses.  And Juno is getting comfortable exploring some very limited areas of the apartment all by herself.

Jordana Paige's Cora in Lavender

jordana paige cora bag lavender

Back in January, I shared some photos with you from a shoot I did for Jordana Paige, but I kept a little secret from you.  There was one handbag, one series of shots, missing from that post.  I'd been sworn to secrecy until its release but I'm happy to say the latest version of the Cora bag is finally here - in lovely lavender, perfect for spring!
