The anticipation and excitement was palpable when I arrived at the hotel that morning. Marika, her mom, and a few of her favorite ladies were getting ready for their walk down the aisle. With the last ribbon tied and the veil in place, we headed over to Crane Melon Barn, where Alex awaited his bride with a little bit of anticipation and excitement of his own. Though the day was a bit warm with the cloudless sky and afternoon sun, it turned out to be perfect in the shaded grove reserved for the ceremony.
A few of my favorite moments from the day:
1. The look on Alex's face as Marika headed down the aisle. The two opted not to do a first look, so this was truly the first time he was seeing her all done up in her dress and veil. He tried as hard as he could to stay calm and composed, but the tiniest hint of a smile still managed to sneak its way out. And of course, that hint of a smile became a beaming grin as the two promised to stay by each other's side forever and always.
2. The emotional yet hilarious toasts that had everyone in attendance, including me, cracking up. You could tell by the stories told and moments shared that these two are surrounded by nothing but unconditional love and support from their friends and family.
3. The dance party. Once the festivities were moved into the barn and the DJ cranked up the dancing tunes, there was no stopping that party train. A little bottle of tequila may have helped moved things along, too. ;)
A funny thing happens when you photograph a wedding. You know the pictures you're taking will be meaningful to the couple and bring back lots of happy memories for them and their families, but you never truly realize just how many great memories they'll bring back for you, too. Knowing how much love there is in the world, and how lucky I am to be able to capture that for others, warms my heart daily. Marika & Alex, it was an honor to be a part of such a joyful day. I wish you both a lifetime of beaming smiles and never-ending dance parties. ♥
