#TBT Mexico | Puerto Vallarta Zoo & Botanical Gardens

puerto vallarta botanical gardensI realized last night I never shared photos from our day at the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens or our trip to the zoo!  Such a bad blogger/photographer.  Despite the crazy humidity and vicious mosquitos (thank god for all-natural bug repellant!), we had a nice time exploring the gardens.  And by "exploring the gardens" I mean making a loop on the easiest trail then parking ourselves in the hacienda for some nachos, mocha shakes, and the cool mountain breeze.

He's always willing to pose for a photo for me.

Last time we went to the PV Zoo, it was a little depressing.  The habitats were pretty bare-bones and the animals seemed lethargic and under-nourished.  It was really nice this time around to see most of the habitats had been renovated to provide more space and more things to keep the animals interested.  They were much more lively and interactive this time around, and quite a bit plumper!  When you first arrive at the zoo, you have the option of buying a little snack pack for about $5 USD filled with fruits, vegetables, nuts, and pellets to feed to the animals.  And pretty much all the animals are accessible for feeding - I even gave a carrot to a tiger, and pet its little paw!  It made us feel a lot better about supporting the zoo and contributing to the local economy.

These monkeys were crazy!  They basically hung by the tree limbs with one arm and snatched up food from the ducks with the other.

The ducks figured out the monkey strategy, though, and eventually came closer to us for some treats.

That last giraffe photo is one of my favorites from the trip.  I just love the expression on his little face.
