I love mountains and trees and all the earth-bound beauty of Northern California, but there's something about being by the sea that calms me unlike any other place. It's funny, in a way, because my one great fear is of deep water. The same vast openness that humbles me and quiets life's stresses also scares me to my core. And yet, I'm deeply drawn to it like a magnetic field that won't relent. I could spend the whole day on the shore's edge, watching the waves kiss the coast before receding while birds circle above hunting for the day's catch, and get lost in the peaceful blue horizon where the sky meets the sea.
For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), it's always our self we find in the sea. - E.E. Cummings
