My niece is turning two in a few days so my sister-in-law wanted to capture a classic portrait as her oldest girl leaves babyhood behind and enters the adventurous world of toddlerhood. The idea was to create a timeless black and white portrait that really could've been taken at any point in the last century. It's totally outside of my "normal" style of shooting but I thought the challenge could be fun and was more than happy for an excuse to spend some time with my sweet niece. We spent about 20 minutes together, just the two of us, and I had no idea how it would go when we first started. It required some creative thinking and a few Mickey Mouse stickers to keep her attention but I have to say, I'm pretty happy with the final product. I think it'd be fun to make this an annual tradition to document how she grows and matures both physically and personality-wise in the years to come.
Have you ever done any "milestone" portraits with your family? (Other than the always-embarrassing school photos, of course!) xo
