Argentina | La Recoleta Cemetery

While in Buenos Aires, we stayed at a little apartment in the Recoleta neighborhood that we found on Airbnb.  It was only about a mile away from the famed Recoleta Cemetery, where Evita Peron and many other famous Argentinians are buried.  We stopped in the park for a little picnic lunch on our way over and were quickly joined by some helpful birds looking to clean up our crumbs.  Pigeons, I totally expected, but I was surprised to see a few parrots pop out from the trees, too.  I offered one a little strawberry top and he hopped right down on the bench beside me to claim his prize!

After our little snack, we headed over to the cemetery.  I have to admit, the thought of visiting a cemetery on our honeymoon seemed a bit morbid to me at first, but it was actually a really beautiful and peaceful place to spend the afternoon.  The tombs are all so ornate and detailed, it felt like we were just walking through a mini-neighborhood in the city.  And we weren't the only creepy tourists checking out the place - Eva Peron's tomb was a big draw and we happened to find it right before all the crowds came along.

Argentina | San Telmo and Plaza San Martin

buenos-airesOur first full day in Buenos Aires was a Sunday, and Sunday just happens to be the day of San Telmo's weekly street fair.  We decided to head over to the fair on foot so we could check out the sights on the 4-mile roundtrip walk.  One of my favorite things about Buenos Aires was all the different styles of architecture mixed in so close together.  Some of the buildings looked like they could be on the streets of Paris or Florence.  We started off by heading to Plaza de Mayo to check out Casa Rosada.  Sadly, the area was being set up for some sort of protest or rally, so the pink house was completely blocked from view.

A Very Piggy Christmas

From our furry little family to yours, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season!  2013 had a lot more surprises, adventures, and general awesomeness than I ever would've imagined this time last year and I'm so thankful you were all along for the ride.  Thank you for letting me share so much with you - the wedding planning, the session recaps, the new recipes and ways of eating, and, of course, all kinds of silly piggy photos - and thank you for being so supportive and encouraging through it all.

Whether you're celebrating Christmas or just another week in December, may your days be merry and bright and may your 2014 be filled with love, health, and happiness.

Happy holidays!

PS - If you're wondering about the blueberries in the photos above, it's my way of bribing them.  They'll do just about anything for some blueberries.

Happy Weekend | How Have I Not Posted For A Week?

llao-llao-hotel-argentina

Well, hello, peeps!  I can't believe it's been one whole week since I last posted it here.  I knew I wanted to take a little time away but I really had every intention of posting something after a few days.  Then a few days became a week and, well, here we are.  Part of that is because we were in Argentina for our honeymoon the last two weeks and, though I really thought I'd blog the whole time, I just kind of didn't want to after a few days.  I wanted to just take in the trip and enjoy some time with my husband away from the e-world.  Plus, it ain't exactly easy blogging on the iPad, at least not for me and my clumsy fingers.  Despite the lack of posts, the trip wasn't much of a secret if you follow me on Instagram, but I didn't really want to go broadcasting it all over them internets* either... you know, with me being crazy paranoid and all.  :)

I'm spending most of today catching up on emails and photo editing (and possibly trying to coax a few guinea pigs into trying on this year's Christmas outfits for a little photo) but I'm planning a few Argentina recaps for you for some in-between holiday reading next week.  I'm also working on a few more Exposed posts for January, which will go into a little more detail about aperture and shutter speed, so if you have any questions or something you'd like me to cover just leave it in the comments below.

Happy weekend!

Happy Weekend

christmas-centerpiece-pine-cones-ornaments

It's hard to believe we're just 11 days away from Christmas Eve.  This year has flown by at an alarmingly fast rate.  I thought for sure it would slow down a bit after the wedding (which was exactly three months ago today!) but it seems to have sped up instead.  On top of all that, the holiday season feels unusually short this year.  I want to spend these last two weeks savoring every moment and soaking in every memory, so the blog posts might be a little sparse between now and the end of the year.  Don't worry, though - we'll hit the ground running come January.  After all, isn't that what January is for? ;)

Hearty Beef & Veggie Stew

gluten-free-beef-stew-recipe

I've got something quite delicious to share with you today.  Something to fill your belly and keep you warm on a cold winter's night.  We had a lot of root veggies from our last CSA delivery of the season and I've been having serious cravings for meat, so I decided to combine the two and make a hearty beef stew!  Back in my gluten eating days, I would've served this with yummy crusty French bread 'cause that's how I rolled (get it? hee hee).  Since gluten is now a no-go, I decided to serve this with homemade cornbread instead.  Sad to say, but the crusty French bread was definitely not missed.  In fact, I highly recommend it with cornbread.  It's scumdiddlyumptious.

gluten-free-beef-stew-recipeWhat You Need:
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- About 2 pounds stew meat
- 4 to 6 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
- 8 to 10 baby potatoes, peeled & chopped
- 1/2 c. red wine
- 8 oz. tomato sauce
- 2 c. beef or veggie broth
- 2 c. water
- 3-4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
- 2 bay leaves
- salt & pepper, to taste

What You Do:
1. I like to cook everything in one pot whenever possible so this is a pretty easy dish to make.  Saute the onions in olive oil until tender.  Push them aside and add the beef.  Brown the meat on all sides.

2. Add the garlic, carrots, and potatoes and cook for about 5 or 6 minutes, until the veggies start to soften a bit.

3. Add the wine and simmer for about 3 minutes.  Add tomato sauce, broth, water, and fresh herbs.  One little tip for the herbs - I tie mine together with a little piece of bakers twine to make an herb bundle.  That way, when the soup is ready, it's easy to remove the one large bundle rather than fishing for the rosemary twigs and bay leaves.

4. Bring the stew to a boil then simmer on low for about 2 hours, until that meat is nice and tender.  Remove the herb bundle, skim the fat from the top (if any) and serve.  It's hearty and delicious on its own but cornbread or corn tortillas go well with it, too.  However you choose to eat it, enjoy!!

Ani & Tim | A Wine Country Wedding

What do you get when you combine a barrel full of sake, two live bands, delicious food, lots of wine, and a whole lotta people who like to have fun?  You get a pretty rockin' wedding, that's for sure!  Ani & Tim were married last July at St. Leo's church in their hometown of Sonoma.  (Coincidentally, The Husband's parents were married at that same church!)  The day was one of the hottest of the summer -reaching nearly 100 degrees- but these lovebirds weren't about to let a little heat ruin the party.  After a sweet ceremony, Ani & Tim made their getaway in a vintage car (and snuck in a few kisses in the backseat) then met up with their loved ones at the family's farm where the wine & sake flowed freely and the food was fresh and delicious.  The two went all out getting the place jazzed up for the event.  A rustic chic door was re-purposed to hold the escort cards and one thousand handmade paper cranes hung at the center of the dance floor, shimmering in the golden setting sun, to bring good luck to the happy couple.  Guests cried tears of happiness throughout the speeches then danced the night away to, not one but, two live bands.  The entire day captured the very essence of Ani & Tim - joyful, exuberant, and full of love.

Ani & Tim - I'm honored you chose me to capture the day for you guys.  I hope you're able to relive every last ounce of happiness each time you look guys look through them. ♥
