Adios, Google Reader

Google Reader is abandoning us on Monday, July 1st, as in - "ju-ly to me about sticking around for life, Google Reader."  Although it never actually made such promises, I considered us to be in a lifelong relationship.  Oh well.  Such is life when you're forced into a break up you never wanted in the first place.

That's okay.  I'll take my sweet lovin' elsewhere.  Namely to Feedly, or Bloglovin' if you're into that.  Personally, I've never really caught on to Bloglovin' but Feedly was very easy for me to set up and navigate.  It takes a few days to get used to the layout but I made the switch a few months ago and, at this point, I probably wouldn't go back even if I had the chance.  How do you like dem apples, Reader?

Switching to Feedly is super easy, too.

See?  Easy peasy lemon squeezy.  Of course, if you prefer Bloglovin, you can find me HERE too, but whichever one you choose, be sure to make the switch soon - I don't want to lose you!!!

Happy Saturday :)

Equality Wins

"We are a people who declared that we are all created equal — and the love we commit to one another must be equal as well." -President Obama

Image via Yahoo News

I don't typically post about political issues but I feel very strongly about marriage equality and today's decisions from the Supreme Court have made my morning.  And though many news outlets frame it in terms of "gay rights," I believe it to be an issue of civil rights.  Period.  DOMA -and Prop 8- were examples of blatant discrimination written into law.  Today the court righted a wrong that should never have been allowed in the first place, and our country is now stronger and better because of these two decisions.

When two people love and respect each other in a way that compels them to make a lifelong commitment to one another - a commitment to support each other, care for each other, protect each other, and love each other unconditionally - how can that possibly seen as a bad thing?

Granted, it would've been nice if the court released a broad opinion allowing same-sex marriage constitutional protection nationwide, but as someone who is familiar with the judicial system and the workings of the court, today's opinions were right under these particular circumstances.  The court accomplished the goals proponents of marriage equality were hoping for while still keeping a narrow construction of the law to avoid accusations of judicial activism or legislating from the bench.  They walked a fine line yet still ruled in favor of civil rights and equality, and I commend them for it.

Many of the Supreme Court's recent decisions have caused me to question my faith in our judicial system but today's rulings are helping to rebuild that faith.  There's still a long road ahead in the battle for civil rights but at least today we can say with pride that we are now two giant leaps closer to true equality for all.

Web Love | I Like You Just The Way You Are

Just a few links that either caught my eye or stole my heart this week.

1. For those of you who grew up any time between 1968 and 2001 (um . . . all of us?), you might be familiar with Mr. Rogers.  Well, if there weren't already enough reasons to love him, here's 21 more reasons why Mr. Rogers is probably the best neighbor any of us had.  Mr. Rogers, I like you just the way you are!

2. A good reminder to us ladies that we might pass along a lot more than we realize to the next generation of women.  Let's all agree now to pass down the good stuff, not the negative thoughts and bad attitudes towards ourselves.

3. I'm envisioning many uses for these sweet little prints from Printic.  All those lovely Instagram photos can now come live in our apartment as actual prints or, better yet, personalized note cards!

4. I found a different kind of inspiration for tonight's engagement session - what NOT to do!

5. And in case you've ever wondered about what it's like to be a professional photographer, here's a somewhat sarcastic take on the job.  A few that are definitely spot on - the one about guests jumping into the aisle to get First Kiss shots with their cell phone (thereby blocking my camera's view) and this one:

 SO true!

6. And, finally - I wish I could go back in time and have this girl's childhood.  Or maybe I'll become a wildlife photographer and the Fiance and I will just raise our children to be real-life Mowglis too.

Hope you're enjoying this lovely first Saturday of summer!  Now get off the Internet and go play outside (after you've checked out those links of course).

Summer Wish List | Sandals

For most of my life, I've been perfectly happy wearing cheap flip flops from May through September (October outside of Chicago).  It's okay.  I didn't mind.  My feet are a little *ahem* wide, so the only flip flops that really fit comfortably and didn't make me feel like my feet were hanging off the sides of the soles were the $5 flip flops from Old Navy.  But I didn't care.  I just bought a pair in every color.  Well, every neutral color.  Brown, black, gray, tan, gold, silver, bronze.  They were five bucks and I was either a student or a nanny or both depending on the time of year so what did I care?

Well, I'm not a student anymore.  Mama's all growed up now.  I have a law degree, a business, and a 3 as the first digit in my age.  Five dollar rubber flippies just aren't cutting it for me these days.  I want grown up summer shoes.  Little wedges that go just as nicely with skinnies and a lightweight tee as they do with a lovely summer sun dress.  Sandals that Molly can't mistake for a chew toy and leave little guinea pig teeth marks in.  Summer shoes like these, perhaps.

1. These Helena Sandals are just the right mix of comfy, casual, and chic.  How perfectly versatile.

2. How about a long, flowy, gauzy skirt and simple plain white tee to go with these Espadrille Wedges?

3. I'm a little bit in love with these Toms Splatter Wedges.  You'd think that many colors would be overwhelming but it's actually quite lovely.  And they'd probably go with just about any summer outfit so it's kind of a win-win, right?

4. And last but most certainly not least, how cute are these yellow-to-nude T-Strap flats?  Oh, and by the way, they're waterproof.  Waterproof, people!!  Which means they're basically super adorable flats that provide the perfect alternative to a rain boot in warm summer thunderstorm.  I mean, what more could you ask for in a summer shoe?  (Anthro has them in other colors, too, in case you were curious. . . )

Anything here catch your eye?

Happy Weekend!!!

Lost Photos

I initially planned on doing a recipe post for you today but as I was browsing my photos (and realizing I forgot to take pictures of the recipe . . . doh!) I stumbled across a folder titled "Lost Photos."  Lost photos?  I was curious.  I had no idea what they could be so I clicked open the folder and found six totally random but totally lovely photos just hanging out in there, all alone and unedited.

My best guess is that it was a weekend in Sonoma, probably last summer.  Sparkling wine, fresh rosemary, delicate roses, and brightly colored citrus sure do sound like the makings of a marvelous summer day.  I wish I could remember exactly when they were taken.  Why did I choose those shots?  What were we doing?  Who was with us?  I don't know.  I might never know.  So instead of getting lost in the photos while recalling memories long forgotten, we can get lost together daydreaming about memories that might still be.

Sausalito Wedding | Kelly & Bill

I honestly don't think there are enough words to describe how perfect Kelly & Bill are for each other.  I mean, their "how we met" story was cute enough but seeing them together on their wedding day just melted my heart.  The smiles and laughter never stopped, not even for the tears.  Even a solid wall of white fog that totally killed any chance at photos with the Golden Gate Bridge wasn't enough to dampen the mood of the day.  We just drove across to Sausalito, found a sunny spot, and had some fun in a little park off the main street.

The good vibes carried over into the reception at The Spinnaker where guests danced in bare feet and nibbled on vanilla cupcakes drizzled with olive oil and Fleur de Sel, or cookies and cream cake with cookies and cream buttercream frosting, while the bride delighted friends and family with an Irish step dance.  It was a jubilant and joyful day, and just the first of many in a long life of love and happiness together for Kelly and Bill.

Wishing you both all the love in the world.  Congratulations!
