Our Wedding

As someone who attends weddings nearly every weekend, I knew I wanted our wedding day to feel a little bit different.  We kept our ceremony intimate - family only - and chose not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen.  We also knew we wanted to walk down the aisle together, so the decision to get ready together was a pretty easy one.  We spent the morning relaxing in our hotel room and sipping mimosas until it was time to get ready.  After hair and make up was done, The Husband helped me into the dress before we headed out to the church.  We waited in the bridal room at the church, just the two of us, and peered through the stained glass windows as we watched our family arrive.  After everyone was seated, The Husband's sister sang Sea of Love as we walked down the aisle together, hand-in-hand, entering our marriage as willing and equal partners.

After the I Do's, we headed out to one of Sonoma's beautiful hidden back roads for our photos, far from the wineries and tourists but still fully submersed in vineyards and delicious sunlight.  We then met up with our family for a relaxed dinner, lovely toasts, and an all around good time.  It turned out to be one of the most relaxing and low-key days we've had in quite some time.  And it also happened to be our fifth anniversary.  Not a bad way to celebrate, I think. :)

We tried to add as many personal touches as we could for the day.  One of my favorites was my hairpiece, which was actually my great-grandmother's necklace.

The handkerchief belonged to the Husband's great-grandmother and the earrings and bracelet were gifts from my mother-in-law.

My multi-talented friend, Ali, made my bouquet that morning with flowers we picked out at the San Francisco Flower Mart the day before.  She also made the boutonnieres and corsages, plus all the centerpiece arrangements for the reception.  We incorporated the yellow roses in my bouquet and in The Husband's boutonniere for two reasons: his grandmother's favorite flower was the yellow rose and the first flowers he ever gave me were yellow roses.

The Husband wore his grandfather's bracelet.  It's sort of his good luck charm. :)

We made homemade limoncello (The Husband's fave) for the adults' favors and little baggies of homemade chocolate chip cookies (my fave) for the kids.

  2. I so love, love, love it! I don't think anybody can beat that in the romance and intimacy stakes. No matter how planned through, a big, flash wedding with hundreds of people will never have the same beauty and charm. And I love that your shoes match the bouquet ;-) Congratulations again to you both xo

  5. Oh, this is just exquisite! Your day looks absolutely gorgeous, and you are truly a striking couple. I love all the personalized details and family heirlooms. My fiance and I have worked hard to incorporate similar elements from our families into our big day (which is Sunday! Eeeek!), and that's what makes the day so memorable, I think. :) So glad it was fantastic and relaxing!

  6. What beautiful photos! I especially love the one where you two are surrounded by grapevines! I love that you had so many personal/family elements like the necklace in your hair, handkerchief, etc. And I love the personalized favors as well. My sister also had a small wedding, just 30 of our closest family and friends, it was a perfect day! There is something to be said for a small and intimate wedding :) Congrats to you both!

  19. Thank you so much, Carole! Big, flashy weddings can be lots of fun but they're not really "us." We were thrilled the day felt so natural and romantic. Plus, it was on a Friday so it really felt like we were doing something special & unique that day. :)
