Alexandria & Ryan | Engaged

Sometimes cliched sayings have a funny way of proving themselves true.  Like, "they go together like peanut butter and jelly."  It's easy to see where the saying comes from.  Peanut butter and jelly is the classic partnership, beloved by millions over the decades.  Both items can stand on their own quite competently, fully confident in their independent awesomeness.  And both could potentially make a lovely pair with a whole host of other partners - peanut butter and bananas, jelly and toast.  But none of those other pairings can compare with the awesomeness of that one specific, tried and true coupling of Peanut Butter and Jelly.  It's the king of sandwiches and the combination of the two makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts.  It's not just peanut butter plus jelly.  It's magic.  And a saying like "they go together like peanut butter and jelly" captures all of that magic in one simple sentence.

We hear that saying all the time but to see it prove true in real life, to witness two people who truly exemplify the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, well, that's to witness magic, too.  And Ali & Ryan?  They got the magic.  You can see it in the way she gently caresses his forearm, or the way he grips her in a protective yet loving embrace.  Don't get me wrong, they're both pretty awesome people in their own.  But the combination of the two is just perfect.  Like peanut butter and jelly.

Ali & Ryan will be married this September at the Santa Barbara Courthouse Mural Room and I'm honored they've asked me to document the day.  We became fast friends this spring during their engagement session in Carmel.  We started off at the Carmel Mission (San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission) and headed over to Point Lobos afterwards only to find that the state park had closed earlier than expected.  Luckily we met a nice Australian roller blader at the park gate who directed us to a lovely cliff trail overlooking the Pacific, just two miles up the road.  We made a little adventure out of it and the rest, as they say, is history.

Fun random fact: Ali & Ryan are two of the last people I talked to when I was a still-single gal.  We had our initial consultation on a Friday evening and less than 36 hours later, the Fancy Fiance asked the big Q!  And their wedding?  Just one week after ours. :)

So it's funny, they will be the only couple that has been with you for the three phases of your life during their wedding process!
