Yosemite Nostalgia

We spent the weekend in Yosemite, partly for work and partly for play.  It was amazing.  I've only been to Yosemite once before, for an environmental law conference, and I didn't really get to explore much of the park.  We originally planned to do quite a bit of hiking but those plans quickly melted in the unseasonably warm 105-degree weather.  Instead we strolled along well-worn paths and dipped our hot toes in every little stream and river we came across.  I never went away to summer camp when I was little but being in Yosemite made wish I was more of a wilderness child.

Wandering the valley, taking in views of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and Bridalveil Fall made me feel a bit nostalgic for a time I've never actually experienced, Yosemite in the '60s, which inspired a vintage film edit for a few of the photos.  Can't you just feel the summer sun beating down on you as you float lazily down the river through the valley?

I have lots more Yosemite photos and stories to share with you soon, including my first horseback ride and the Fiance's experience with a ghost in our haunted hotel room, just as soon as I get caught up on work!  How was your weekend?

  1. Although I have this irrational fear that a bear will eat me during the night, I love Yosemite! We tried to book a weekend, but it was completely full for a while... :(

  2. What a fun weekend! Did you swim in the River at all? I love Yosemite, I used to go all the time as a kid. Now we usually opt for Tuolumne Meadows were there are less people and cooler temps! Looking forward to that ghost story...

  5. Yosemite is so beautiful and I can't wait to go back! I was just a kid when I last visited and certainly did not appreciate it as much as I could have, so it's on our list of places to visit. There is something so peaceful and majestic about being in nature!

You totally have me interested in this ghost experience...can't wait to read about it!

  7. LOVE. My heart feels like it's going to burst. I need to just hang out at your website when I'm having a rough morning, because your images and your stories and your California light just make me so happy. :)

We visited Yosemite for the first time last year -- and though we were only passing through the park (and had no more than three hours to walk along the valley), those hours will stay with me forever. I only took about 60 photos in that time (crazy for me!) because I was trying to really soak it up and stay in the moment, which can be tough when I have a camera lens pressed to my face. (Eh, sometimes.)

I am DYING to go back, and this time I want to stay in a cabin! And hang around! And, yes, daydream about Yosemite in the '60s! Sigh.

Totally don't feel like sitting in my office now.
