Windy City Purchases

Hello Lovelies!  Just wanted to drop in and show you some purchases I made today.  I needed to buy a dress for the rehearsal dinner this Friday and I needed to grab those lovely bridesmaid shoes since I never had time to do it before leaving California.  So ... I hit up Michigan Avenue!  The winning pair of shoes from my poll a few weeks ago was Number 4 but unfortunately the Macy's by my office AND the Macy's here in Chicago didn't have my size.  I found a very similar pair of Badgley Mishka shoes at Nordstrom Rack but they had this weird little mini-platform under the toe section.  It was nearly impossible for me to keep my balance a) because it was a weird mini-platform and b) because, let's face, I'm a bit clumsy.  I couldn't even walk down the aisle in the store much less at the wedding!  So I went with a fancy-pants pair of Steve Madden shoes.  The best part is these shoes were $90 on sale for $35!

I also picked up a pretty floral dress for the rehearsal dinner and the most adorable striped cardigan from H&M.  Don't you just love the suede elbow patches?  Feels so professorial (big word, I know!).  This little sweater would go perfectly with dark skinnies and a pair of Oxfords.  Lucky for me, San Francisco has "sweater weather" pretty much year-round so I don't have to wait until the fall to wear it!

Can I just take a moment to complain about H&M, though?  Why can't they get their sizing consistent?  That little dress is a size 4, which is normal for me, but that cardigan?  Size 10.  Yep.  Wtf, H&M?  Even the girl at the check-out noticed the size difference and complained about H&M's weirdness.  Not good when even the employees have no idea why the sizing is the way it is.  Oh, and if any of you Chicago-area readers are wondering, apparently H&M is hiring right now...

  2. You are SO tiny. I don't wear size 4 in their dresses. I wear their 6 or 8!

  3. @Jenny - that's only b/c it's a flowy dress w/an elastic waist. some of the fitted work dresses I've bought from there are 6 or 8. I always have to take 2 or 3 different sizes of each item into the dressing room b/c I never know what's going to fit!!

  4. Sizes can be crazy like that. I know I'm at 3 different sizes at different stores. So I'm never too upset if the size is a little smalleror larger than I think it should be

  8. Great job on the shoe choice!! Silly Macy's, why can't they have stuff in stock? And another thing, why doesn't Texas have an H&M yet? I keep seeing all these lovely pieces on lots of blogs, and I feel I need to shop there too. LOVE that dress.

Definitely weird about their sizing. Thanks for the heads up! :)

  12. L-O-V-E love the "professorial" look...especially elbow patches...big, pink, puffy heart it. Everyone and their mother seems to love H&M, but every time I have gone in there, I am just so overwhelmed I can't even find anything I like! Bummer, because they seem to have great stuff!

  13. Love the shoes. Pretty fantastic second option.

I hate inconsistent sizing. Even though you know it has nothing to do with you, it can so disheartening and crushing to have to get a much bigger size that what you know you are. Grr. There needs to be a international standardised fitting system thing. So you can buy in the shop from the web and know it's going to fit. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd take some action.

  14. That cardigan is really cute! And so is the dress. But yeah, H&M's sizing really sucks! Sometimes I can wear small sizes but mostly I have to go up in size. Grr!

  15. Steve Madden never fails me! :) Great shoe choice. And I'm right there with you (and everyone else) on how frustrating the sizing is in every store. I'm sure we'd all save time shopping if we didn't have to try on the same dress, skirt, top, etc., in three different sizes!
